1. Did you know at the time when you enrolled in the Faculty of Economics what its advantages are?
I was aware of the quality of knowledge that students acquire at this faculty, but I discovered many advantages during my studies. The faculty provides a handful of opportunities for those who are interested in additional training, as well as informal education in the form of various student organizations, case study competitions, travelling.
2. Which opportunities were given to you during your studies that you didn’t expect to have?
The Faculty of Economics rewards students who achieve good results, not only in the form of scholarships, but also by attending various conferences both in our country and abroad. As one of the trips, I would like to single out the opportunity to attend a conference in Opatija together with colleagues from the faculties of economics from the whole region.
3. How much did you recognize the possibilities and did you use everything that the faculty provided?
The Faculty of Economics offers students many opportunities to work on themselves and improve in various fields. As the most important organization of which I was a member, I would single out the Case Study Club, which helps students acquire the skills needed to analyze and solve practical problems in the business world. I think that participating in competitions in solving a case study helped me the most to get acquainted with the corporate sector and gain multidisciplinary knowledge. In addition to the Case Study Club, the Faculty has a Debate Club, Student Mentoring, StartUp Center, Marketing Workshop… Also, the Faculty through its Centre for Corporate Relations strives to connect students with more than 530 successful companies with which it cooperates. Panel discussions are often organized where people from the business world gather with young entrepreneurs, in order to share their experiences and advice with students. I would like to mention that the Faculty of Economics offers the option of student exchange with foreign universities, so that students have the opportunity to complete one semester abroad, in cities such as Berlin and Vienna.
4. Was studying in English for two diplomas upon completion a challenge? How long have you been thinking about that decision?
As soon as I found out about this double degree programme, I became interested and very quickly made the decision to enroll in it. Considering the facts that our generation was the first one to get the opportunity to study under this program in Serbia, there was some uncertainty at the very beginning of the year. However, we quickly got used to studying in English and with the results at the end of the year we justified the chance we were given. The biggest challenge was the transition to the British education system, where courses are two-semester long and exams are mostly given in the form of essay questions that encourage a critical approach.
5. What benefits did you see after graduating with two degrees?
I believe that the specificity of this programme, as well as the degree of the University of London, gives students an advantage and a greater chance to stand out when applying for jobs, internships, various educational programs and organizations, and especially for continuing education after undergraduate studies, both here and abroad.
6. Would you opt for this programme again if you had a chance?
Definitely. The program offers extensive knowledge in the field of economics and finance, but at the same time gives you enough time to dedicate to specialization in other areas. According to the British education system, exams are taken only once a year, in May, therefore my colleagues and I used the summer to acquire some additional knowledge through professional internships, case study competitions, summer schools, and participation in various educational programs.
7. When you graduated from college you could choose a job. How much did a bilingual degree help with employment?
A degree from the University of London is highly valued among employers, which has enabled me to complete a professional internship after the second year of study. By winning the Ekof Business Challenge competition, I was given the opportunity to become EY Scholar and Student Ambassador. After completing my undergraduate studies, I began my career as a junior consultant at Ernst & Young (EY), an auditing and consulting firm, in the Valuation, Modeling and Economics department.
