University of Belgrade is the largest and the oldest higher-education institution in Serbia dedicated to scientific and academic work. It was founded in 1863 as the Higher School and officially became the University in 1905. Apart from the Faculty of Economics, the University encompasses 30 more faculties.
Entering the Shanghai Ranking in 2012, University of Belgrade positioned itself in the elite 2% of the best world universities. In 2013, it re-entered the top 500, ranking between 301st and 400th place. The significance of this ranking has been proven by the increasing number of international students from all over the world.
Belgrade is considered to be the centre of Serbia and the Region. Besides having the opportunity for academic and professional development, the students also have a great selection of leisure activities. There are a number of natural resorts and sports and picnic areas, such as Košutnjak Hill, Ada Ciganlija, Avala Mountain and others.
